Why choose Myotherapy

Myotherapy supports muscular recovery by enhancing the body’s natural ability to heal. Through targeted, hands-on techniques, it increases oxygenated blood flow and nutrient delivery to muscles under tension and to sites of strain or tear, assisting tissue repair and the breakdown of post-injury scar tissue.

Supports Healing When Movement Is Limited

Myotherapy aligns with both the Movement and Treatment components of the MEAT approach. When pain, injury, or restriction limits a horse’s ability to actively engage or load specific muscles, myotherapy provides controlled, passive stimulation to support tissue health. This helps maintain circulation, mobility, and neuromuscular communication when active movement is reduced or temporarily restricted.

While myotherapy does not replace exercise or strengthening, it supports the body through the healing phase, preparing muscles to re-engage, tolerate load, and perform more effectively as rehabilitation and training progress.

Early Intervention

The traditional RICE method (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) has largely been replaced by the MEAT approach (Movement, Exercise, Analgesia, and Treatment) which better reflects how soft tissue heals.

Muscle Maintenance

Myotherapy is not only beneficial during injury or rehabilitation. For horses in regular work, training, or competition, myotherapy plays an important role in managing muscle tension and chronic overload. Repetitive movement, training demands, saddle fit, and compensatory patterns can lead to persistent tightness and restriction, even in the absence of obvious injury.

Myotherapy helps reduce muscle tension, restore tissue mobility, improve circulation, and support balanced movement, allowing the horse to move more freely, perform more efficiently, and maintain long-term comfort and soundness.

Treatment aims to:

  1. Stimulate circulation to enhance oxygen and nutrient supply

  2. Promote lymphatic drainage, reducing fluid and metabolic waste buildup

  3. Maintain tissue elasticity and mobility

  4. Reduce protective muscle guarding

  5. Support neuromuscular communication, preparing the body for correct movement patterns
